Khaled Abdel-Kader MD MS

Dr. Abdel-Kader's research interests include geriatric nephrology, quality of life in chronic kidney disease (CKD), quality of care in non-dialysis dependent CKD, health information technology including electronic health records (EHR) and clinical decision support systems (CDSS). He's received federal and foundational grants to fund this research including a K23 career development award, a Norman Coplon Satellite Grant award, and an R01 award. His publications have included manuscripts in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, Critical Care Medicine, American Journal of Kidney Diseases, Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, and the Journal of Hypertension among others. He is an associate editor for BMC Nephrology and is a member of the editorial board of CJASN.

As a nephrologist, Dr. Abdel-Kader's passions include collaborating with and educating his patients. He believes in the importance of engaging patients in their care and discussing treatment options. He works hard to make sure that his patients understand their health issues and what they can to do to improve their health.  Dr. Abdel-Kader is committed to ensuring that his patients receive the best treatments that are also consistent with their goals and values.  In addition to his passion for general nephrology, Dr. Abdel-Kader has a clinical interest in chronic kidney disease.

Dr. Abdel-Kader completed his undergraduate training at Washington University and his medical degree at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson (now Rutgers Medical School). He completed residency in internal medicine with a year as chief resident at Brown University School of Medicine before specializing in nephrology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Abdel-Kader has a master’s in medical education and is completing a doctorate in clinical and translational science.
